There are several distillers of Maraschino liqueur but one of the most widely known brand as we know today is Luxardo with its long tradition of liqueur production founded in the city of Zadar Croatia in 1821 and then moved to Italy.

What is Maraschino liqueur made from?

Liqueur obtain its flavour from the distillation of Marasca cherries including the crushed pit which is small slightly sour fruit. So not to be confused with a sweet juice of maraschino cherries and other cherry liqueurs.

Taste of liqueur has to do a lot with method of production. The Marasca cherries are processed and distilled and later combined with a pure cane syrup before it’s aged and filtered.

What Does Maraschino liqueur taste like?

Maraschino liqueur is clear and relatively dry liqueur with important addition of crushed pits which give it subtle bitter almond-like flavour.  Texture is dense and syrupy give it a specific mouthfeel.

Liqueur can transform an average cocktail into outstanding one providing good complexity and texture without being overly sweet.

How to use Maraschino Liqueur?

Maraschino Liqueur can be used in a number of Classic cocktails just to name a few Martinez, Aviation or Hemingway Daiquiri.
